Skin’s Random Camp Observations

These are the most important things I’ve learned after seeing two Cowboys practices out here in Oxnard.

1. Lucky Whitehead is tiny.

This cat is small. Like cat-small. Like KT Fun Shorts towers over him. I’m glad his nickname is “Lucky” instead of “Tiny” because “Tiny Whitehead” kind of sounds gross. Or maybe “Lucky” is actually his first name. Very excited about this possibility – will the Cowboys corner the tiny lucky receiver market with Beasley and Whitehead. “Beasley and Whitehead” kind of sounds like a 70s disco soul group. This is a versatile team.

2. Somebody put NWA’s “100 Miles and Runnin” on the Cowboys practice playlist.

This is a pretty curious choice. It certainly has some pace to it, utilizing a lot of the upbeat psyche-soul samples reminiscent of early 70s Motown, but it’s a pretty mediocre NWA track.

Cube had left the band so his urgent delivery is missing and the production is actually a little clunky and dense and not anything close to the direction Dre was about to head with his G-Funk sound. But the main thing is that there are so many better choices from NWA that would get the team hype. I feel like somebody dropped the ball on this. We’ll see if it prevents the team from making a deep playoff run or not.

3. Ummmmm, dudes, ummmmm – Randy Gregory is going to have an impact this year.

I wasn’t thinking that’d be the case because of his “weight issues,” but he looks bigger in his upper body than I thought he’d be. He’s obviously more on the lean side, but I think his athleticism is going to make him a VERY useful pass rusher this season.

I got really excited about his possible contributions after watching him in the individual pass rush drills. Now I feel like it’s up to me to get him acquainted with some of NWA’s better tracks so that he can truly reach his full potential.
